Martignetti, Dr. Frank

Dr. Frank Martignetti is Interim Director of the Music & Performing Arts program at the University of Bridgeport, where he has conducted choruses and taught music and music education courses since 2005.

A finalist for the 2015 American Prize in Choral Conducting, he has also served as Artistic Director of the Mystic River Chorale since 2008, and Director of Music Ministries & Organist at Advent Lutheran Church on Manhattan’s Upper West Side since 2013.  A public school teacher for ten years, almost entirely in urban schools, he received the New Haven Symphony’s 2006 Excellence in Music Teaching Award.

Frank holds degrees from New York University (Ph.D.), the University of Rochester (BA), the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (MM), and the Eastman School of Music (BM). Frank’s current research uses case study and ethnographic approaches to study music education in urban public schools, and his writing been published in the Choral Journal, the Music Educators Journal, and Visions of Research in Music Education.

Frank has presented clinics, lectures, and papers for the Bridgeport Boys Choir, the College Music Society, Connecticut Music Educators Association, Michigan State University, Montclair State University, New Haven Public Schools, New York University, Rhode Island Music Educators Association, Society for Music Teacher Education, Southern Connecticut State University, Union Theological Seminary of Columbia University, the University of Connecticut, and the University of North Texas.
