Thomas Brand, Founder and Artistic Director of the United Choir School and Elms City Girls' Choir is a native of New Haven, Connecticut, where he began his musical career at age nine as a member of the Trinity Boys Choir. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in choral conducting from Yale University, and is an alumnus of the American Boychoir School. He conducts several ensembles of the Elm City Girls’ Choir and United Girls’ Choir.

Mr. Brand is currently Organist and Choirmaster of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bridgeport. He has served on the faculties of Vassar College and Southern Connecticut State University, and has been a guest conductor and clinician for organizations including the Music Educators’ Associations of Connecticut and New York, and the American Choral Director’s Association. His instructors and mentors have included Walden Moore, Marguerite Brooks, Jeffrey Bernstein, James Litton, and Christopher Shepard.
