Organ Crawl – Historic Organs of Bridgeport

February 18, 2013 10:30 AM

Join fellow members and chapter friends as organ crawl host Paul Thoma leads the group to unique pipe organ installations within close proximity in Bridgeport. Bring your organ shoes and try one or more of these organs yourself.

Bridgeport was the hub of manufacturing commerce in its heyday. Famous industrialists and a prosperous city of residents contributed generously to the pipe organs in the churches that will be visited in what today is very much an urban city rebuilding itself.

Come join us as organ crawl host Paul Thoma leads our tour of each pipe organ and we learn about the manufacturer and design for the space, the history of musical events over the years, AND get a chance to play these instruments! Organ crawl host is Paul Thoma.

We’ll meet at 9:30 am at United Congregational Church, 877 Park Avenue, to gather. We will carpool to several area organs. Bring a bag lunch! After lunch we will see a few more organs and end up back at United Congregational Church, to see the 3 pipe organs there and enjoy an early supper at 4:00 PM. $5 donation for supper.

The event is FREE but we would like RSVPs by Friday, Feb 8 so that we can plan for supper! Please RSVP to Meg Williams, Greater Bridgeport Chapter Dean, at megwillia@gmail.com or by phone at 203.375.8854.

Participants are encouraged to bring some music and shoes and try the instruments! (Please, short 2-3 minute pieces.)
