In this special year for the GBS, 5 Finalist Conductors vy for the position as Principal Conductor replacing retired Maestro Gustav Meier. The 5 were chosen from over 150 applicants interested in following the steps of the legendary Meier, each with wonderful credentials. In addition to hearing great music by the orchestra for each concert in the season, the audience becomes part of the Conductor Search committee helping judge the conductor's performance and interpersonal communications when they get a chance to speak with the conductor at the end of the concert and vote.
Each finalist conductor has been paired with GBS Young Instrumentalists Competition winners performing a Beethoven Symphony using either piano, violin or both. Each soloist is now an international artists and has premiered with GBS. Purchase tickets now!

Beethoven "Triple Concerto" - Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C-major, opus 56
Conductor: Jonathan Govias
Jonathan Andrew Govia, a resident of Boston, is a conductor, author and public speaker who focuses on social music theory and practice. He is also resident conductor of Symphony Nova Scotia in Canada.
Deborah Wong is the concertmaster for GBS and joins GBS Young Instrumentalist Competition winners Allison Eldredge (1986) and Andrew Armstrong (1990), both have performed many times with GBS and are great friends of the GBS family.

Beethoven Violin Concerto in D-major, opus 61, along with programming to reflect the holiday, our wonderful Violin soloist and choral ensemble
Conductor: Eric Jacobsen
Eric Jacobsen, a resident of New York, was identified by the Los Angeles Times as helping to ensure "the future of classical music in America." A cellist of renown, Jacobsen is a member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project and a member of the faculty at New York University, where he conducts orchestras and teaches cello and chamber music.
Alexander Markov is the 1981 winner of the GBS Young Instrumentalist Competition; whether classic or rock, Alexander is a GBS favorite soloist. We are thrilled to have the prestigious Trumbull High School Choirs perform on stage with GBS. They have graced us with their presence with preconcert music and we expect amazing singing given their wonderful choral director, Anne Tornillo.

Beethoven Piano Concert No. 4 in G-major, opus 58
Conductor: Lawrence Loh
Lawrence Loh, of Pittsburgh, is resident conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and music director/conductor of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Soloist: Joel Fan, piano.
In collaboration with cellist Yo-Yo Ma as a member of the Silk Road Ensemble, Joel Fan has appeared in numerous venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and on the popular nationally televised programs Good Morning America and Late Night with David Letterman.

Conductor: Jacomo Bairos
Jacomo Rafael Bairos, a resident of Charlotte, N.C., is guest conductor of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, where he has conducted subscription concerts throughout the season; also an orchestral tubist.
Soloist: Anita Chen, piano, violin.
A double prodigy at the violin and piano, Anita Chen is the 2009 GBS Young Instrumentalist Competition winner and debuted with GBS in October 2010.
